  Lucille Grace Causley
(April 5, 1991 – January 30, 2010)

Lucille Grace Causley 18 of Harbor Springs and Colorado died January 30, 2010 in Colorado. Funeral services will be held on Sunday Feb. 7th at 3:00 P.M. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Petoskey. Fr. Greg Brown will be the celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 2:00 PM on Sunday. Following the service family and friends are invited to join the Causley family at Nubs Nob for a time of remembrance and fellowship. Lucy was an outgoing and joyful human being. She embraced life, people and skiing. She spread her love, enthusiasm and happiness to all.

Lucy was born in Detroit, Michigan. She lived in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan for the first ten years of her life. She moved up to Harbor Springs with her family in 2001. Lucy participated in the Harbor Springs middle school and high school ski teams, the Harbor Soccer travel teams, the Harbor Springs high school soccer team and the middle school and high school bands, playing the clarinet. She continued her high school education at the Lowell Whiteman School in Steamboat Springs, Colorado where she participated in ski racing and their foreign travel program. She traveled with her school group to Vietnam and Cambodia, last year, sight-seeing and doing service projects. Lucy graduated from Lowell Whiteman in June 2009 and chose Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado to pursue a major in the Outdoor Leadership and Resort Management program.

Lucy loved the outdoors; hiking, camping, and canoeing, especially up in Ontario, Canada where she attended Camp-Bil-O-Wood for many summers. Lucy also loved the mountains of Colorado and the fresh waters of the Great Lakes.

Lucy will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her father and mother, Richard and Susan Causley; her brother, Tom; her sister, Anna; her grandmothers, Delores Causley and Kathleen Candler; and all her aunts, uncles cousins and many friends who loved her deeply.

George Pavowski
(June 23, 1922 – January 30, 2010)

George Pavwoski, 87, of Cheboygan, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2010 at home.

A lifelong resident of Cheboygan, except for the short time he lived in Muskegon while growing up, George was born June 23, 1922 in Cheboygan, the son of Andrew and Florence (LaVigne) Pavwoski. He was married to Esther Meyers, who preceded him in death, later Mary Blair, who also preceded him in death, and Rita Verville, who passed away in 2004. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and also worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps, and was a fireman on the Great Lakes freighter Tomlinson. He also worked as a logger, and farmed most of his life, raising livestock and dairy cattle, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a member of the VFW.

Surviving are his children, George (Judy) Pavwoski, Jr. of Cheboygan, Dale (Linda) Pavwoski of Buckley, Daniel (Sharon) Pavwoski of Cheboygan and David (Candace) Pavwoski of Onaway, Mary (Andy) Jewell of Cheboygan, William Pavwoski of Traverse City, and Margaret (Jet) Ormsbee of Gaylord,

his step children, Paul Verville of Traverse City, Sandra (Douglas) Hill of Petoskey, Douglas Verville, Dennis (Tammy) Verville, Kimberly (Jack) Berden, Joseph (Sylvia) Verville, all of Cheboygan, Mary Kay Vega of California, and Sharon Blair of Minnesota, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, a sister, Catherine (Edward) Reuter of Dearborn, two brothers, Allan(Angie) Pavwoski, and Donald (Shirley) Pavwoski, of Lansing, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, a son, James Pavwoski, an infant son, Joseph Pavwoski, a grandson, Norman Pavwoski, a sister, Florence Meade, and two brothers, Raymond and Richard Pavwoski.

Visitation will be held at the Christian Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, from 2-4pm, and 6-8pm, with a Scripture Service beginning at 7pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 4 at 11:00 am, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am, at St. Mary’s/St. Charles Catholic Church. Rev. Paul Megge will officiate and burial will take place at St. Francis Cemetery in the spring.

Margie Baxter
(May 19, 1939 – February 1, 2010)

Margie Baxter, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Feb. 1, 2010, at her home in Boyne City at the age of 70.

Margie was born on May 19, 1939, in Muskegon, to Benjamin and Amandasue Evans. She was the first of nine children. On April 24, 1957, Margie and Don Baxter began their lives together as husband and wife. Margie loved life. She loved and cared for all her family and friends in the most selfless ways, giving of herself at every opportunity, always putting others before herself. She was and continues to be an encourager and inspiration to those who knew her well and to those who recently had that pleasure. She was employed around the area as a cook for many years. Margie enjoyed to read, play bingo, go to the casino and enjoyed spending time with all her family. She will be greatly missed by all of us.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Baxter; and her children, Timothy (Lisa) Baxter, Laurie (Mark) Moore, Donald (Tonya) Baxter, Rhonda (Steve) Moore, James (Denise) Baxter, Terry Joe (Linda) Baxter, Ellen (Michael) Karlskin, Christina (George) Foster; her brothers, James (Barb) Evans, Willard (Jan) Evans, Conrad (Christina) Evans, Steve (Deanna) Evans; sister-in-law, Louann Evans; brother-in-law, Lindon Wiser. Margie also has 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews who all loved her very much.

Memorial contributions may be made to Donald Verle Baxter, 315 E. Division St., Apt. 29, Boyne City), in loving memory of his wife, Margie Baxter.

Viewing will be 4-6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City. A luncheon will follow at the Boyne City VFW.

 Henry “Hank” H. Ford
(June 11, 1918 – February 2, 2010)

Henry “Hank” H. Ford, age 91 of Levering passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Hospice House in Cheboygan. He was born June 11, 1918 in Maple River Township to Thomas and Ora (Wildfong) Ford. On September 26, 1936 in Petoskey, Hank married Bernice Mallory who preceded him in death in 1998.

Hank attended the Indian School at Brutus through the 8th grade. He served his country honorably with the United States Army during WWII from May of ‘45 – Oct. of ‘46 and served with the 1st Calvary Division in the Asiatic Pacific Theater as well as Occupational duty in Japan. Hank worked for the Emmet County Road Commission as a heavy equipment operator and retired after 28 years of service. Immediately after retirng from the road commission, he went to work for Wequetonsing Association in Harbor Springs and retired in 1996 after 25 years of service.

Hank was a past member of the Independent Order Of Oddfellows, Levering Lodge, charter member of the Levering Lions Club and a life member of the Petoskey-Harbor Springs V.F.W. Post #2051. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper and a Detroit Tigers fan but most of all Hank’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends and his dog Bailey.

“Pa” is survived by two sons, William “Bill” H. (Helen) Ford of Carp Lake and Robert E. Ford of Levering, his daughter-in-law, Lorna Ford of Brutus, two sisters, Viola Mummert of Brutus and Janetta Klock of IL, one brother, Thomas “Ike” Ford, Jr. of Pellston, eight grandchildren, Mark (Jennifer) Ford of FL, Dorla (Mark) Tyson, of FL, Cheri (Jon) DuBay of Petoskey, Scott (Heather) Ford of Carp Lake, Ken (fiancé Candace Dennert) Ford of Carp Lake, Doug (Lisa) Ford of Gaylord, Rebecca (friend Matt Kwiatkowski) of Cheboygan and Patty Ford (friend David Vieau, Jr.) of Brutus, 12 great grandchildren , 2 great-great grandchildren, his special friend, Faye and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Bernice, Hank was preceded in death by one son, Leonard Ford, a grandson, Tony Ford and one sister, Vinetta Ford-Kilpatrick.

Visitation will be held on February 7, 2010 from 5-8 pm at the Nordman Funeral Home. The funeral servcie will be held on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 2:30 pm also at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Retired U.S. Army Chaplain Colonel Ray Moore will officiate and burial will take place at the Bliss Township Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial contributions in Hank’s name may be directed to the Hospice House of the Straits or the Carp Lake Township Fire Department, Medical First Responder Unit. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Hospice House for taking such wonderful care of their dad and grandpa.

  Lyle William Blanshan
(February 6, 1925 – February 3, 2010)

Lyle William Blanshan, age 84 of Boyne Falls, died February 3, 2010 at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan.

Lyle was born on February 6, 1925 in East Jordan, MI, the son of William and Emma Blanshan and was raised in Boyne City, and graduated from Boyne City High School.

On December 14, 1946, he married his wife of 63 years, Bonnie Washburn in Boyne City and she survives.

In 1941, he entered the US Army, transferred to the US Navy, and then later transferred again to the US Air Force, retiring in 1964 at the rank of Staff Sergeant and after serving in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Following his discharge, he went to work in Comstock Park, MI working construction, and in 1966 moved back to the Boyne City area and went to work for the Petoskey High School in 1968 as a custodian and bus driver, retiring from there in 1986. Following his retirement, we went to work as a custodian at Carter’s and worked there until the late 1990’s.

He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and the Odd Fellows. He loved building airplanes, reading Louis Lamoure and Zane Gray books and watching TV. He was an avid Detroit Tigers and Red Wings fan.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, 5 children, Sarah (Dale) Haven of Charleston, SC, Lyle (Pamela) Blanshan of Hudsonville, MI, Barbara (Raymond) Amaya of Crystal City, TX, William Blanshan of Boyne Falls, and Nancy Blanshan of Boyne Falls; 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; and by a special family friend, Mickey Howard of Boyne Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by 3 siblings, June, Allen, and Basil.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 8th at 10:30am at the Stackus Funeral Home of Boyne City with Ronald Klooster officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday at the funeral home from 6-8pm.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to his extended family and friends at Grandvue Medical Care Facility for the great care he received during his stay.

 Nancy S. McDonald
(October 18, 1944 – February 4, 2010)

Nancy S. McDonald, 65, of Afton, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Cheboygan Memorial Hospital.

An announcement will be made in the spring regarding a service at the Walker Township Cemetery.

Nancy was born on Oct. 18, 1944 in Monroe, MI. She was the daughter of Harvey and Gladys (Reich) Benson. She moved to Afton with her family as a young girl and attended the Tower School. She graduated from Inland Lakes High School in Indian River. In 1966 Nancy earned a practical nursing degree from the Michigan Tech campus in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. She spent her nursing career working at the former Cheboygan Memorial Hospital, many years working in the Emergency Department.

On May 7, 1966 she marred Richard W. McDonald in Onaway. The couple made their home in Afton. He preceded her in death in July, 2008. She continued to make her home in Afton.

Nancy loved to watch and feed her backyard birds and animals. She loved walking through the woods.
