Edward L Shepherd passed away May 10th at Hospice of Little Traverse Bay’s Hiland Cottage.
He was born September 16th 1932 in Harbor Springs to Nita and Frank Shepherd. He attended Harbor Springs High School. On November 23rd, 1957 Edward married the love of his life, Anne Foster. They made their home on the family farm located on Quick Rd in Harbor Springs. He ran the family dairy farm until 1987. He retired from dairy farming but continued to farm raising beef cattle. On hot August summer days he could usually be found at his sweet corn stand in his front yard readily available to converse on many subjects. In 1959 he began yet another career driving the school bus for the Harbor Springs School District until retiring in 2008. He also enjoyed being on the Little Traverse Township Zoning Board, the Zoning Board of Appeals, and the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS).
Edward is survived by his loving wife Anne; their three children Frank, Ken (Barb), and Connie (Brian) O’Neill. He also has six grandchildren, Andi and Meg Shepherd, Calli and Jacque O’Neill, Ashley Shepherd and Katie (Brandon) Wagner as well as a great-grand daughter Addison and many nieces and nephews. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Kenneth and Ernest Shepherd, and a daughter Cynthia.
The Family suggests that in lieu of flowers those wishing to honor his memory make a contribution to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay, the Holy Childhood Building Fund or the scholarship fund of Edward L. Shepherd to be established with the Harbor Springs School District.
The Funeral Mass will take place on Wed. May 12th at 11:00 AM at Holy Childhood Church in Harbor Springs. Fr. Joe Graff will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Childhood Cemetery. Visitation will take place this evening from 6-8:00 PM at the church with a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM.
