The scent of ethnic food and the roar of accordians spread throughout St. Matthew’s Church on Sunday afternoon as the Boyne Valley Catholic Community celebrated their annual Parish Festival.  Parishoners and guests alike enjoyed polka dancing, music, fellowship, and shared an afternoon meal.

Created as an annual celebration for St. Matthew’s Church, it quickly spread to include the entire Boyne Valley Catholic Community, and large parts of our town.  With upbeat music from the Polka Pals and food served by the Altar Guild, people from all over enjoyed each other’s company.

“It is always a good time” said one parishoner as she swayed to the sound of “Mansion Over the Hilltop” and greeted those coming in.  Likewise, some got up to dance, and others simply sat, ate, and enjoyed the event.  With a raffle building up to this day and a 50/50 drawing taking place, some even went home with money.

The Festival is held annually towards the end of August, and is looked forward to year-round by people in the area.  Every year, members of the public are both welcome and encouraged to attend.
