Boyne Holidays Kick Off
As many people got up to go shopping on the day after Thanksgiving, Boyne City kicked off the holiday season with just as much small-town flair as ever. Beginning early in the day as businesses opened their doors downtown with sales, discounts, and speical offers, shoppers lines the streets, ready to find presents for others, and even items for themselves. Restaurants sat ready with hot coffee and hot food, as cold, hungry shoppers stopped in for lunch. As the day progressed, the Boyne District Library held a childrens event. Eager members of the Friends of the Boyne Library read books, brought snacks, and even helped the children make craft items. Children sitting on a patchwork quilt enjoyed listening, as volunteers read holiday stories to them. As the sun began to set and the highlight of the experience approached, the lights lining downtown Boyne City were lit, showing bright snowflakes, wreaths, bows, and old-fashioned holiday lights.

City streets lined up as the parade takes place.
The local Girl Scout Troop took part in the lighting ceremony for the tree at Veterans Park, and the traditional parade took off down Water Street. Lining up were floats from the various groups, local people singing and playing carols, people dressed as The Cat in the Hat and The Grinch, and bringing up the end of the parade, Santa himself. The parade, drawing to a close, ended near the old Oddfellows building. Children were ushered with their parents into an adjoining room – Santa’s Workshop – and one-by-one, over 200 children sat on Santa’s knee, sharing what they would like for Christmas. The holiday spirit proved to be alive and well to the citizens of Boyne City, and will be for years to come.
