			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Nancy Kay Huff, age 61 of Boyne City died Thursday, June 17, 2010 at her home.</p>
<p>Nancy was born on March 15, 1949 in Waterford the daughter of David and Corine (Lamb) Ruelle.  Nancy grew up and graduated from Waterford Township High School.  She went on to earn her Bachelor Degree in teaching from Central Michigan University and a Masters Degree from Michigan State University.  On September 5, 1970 she married Robert Huff in Durand, MI.  Nancy was a dedicated Special Education Teacher for 30 years.  She enjoyed knitting and caring for children, most of all Nancy loved spending time with her family; “she will always be remembered as gentle, kind and loving by her family and friends.”</p>
<p>Nancy is survived by her husband Robert Huff; children Charity (Brian) Patten; son Donovan Huff; granddaughter Emma Kay Patten; brother David (Becky) Ruelle; and several nieces and nephews.</p>
<p>A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm on Monday June 28, 2010 at Christ Lutheran Church with a gathering of family and friends being held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the church prior to the service. Rev. Kenneth Bernthal will be officiating.</p>
<p>The family request memorial donations to be directed to the American Cancer Society.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Lucinda May “More Schroeder” Hodgkin, age 89 of Boyne City died Sunday, May 30, 2010 at Charlevoix Area Hospital after a sixteen month battle with cancer.</p>
<p>Lucinda was born on December 13, 1920 in Eastport, MI the daughter of Floyd and Effie (Bayliss) Moore, one of eight children.  She was the mother of seven children, three of whom survive her.  Lucinda played guitar with the Sunshine Band for many years, she worked at Allied Bendix but was mostly a homemaker and will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister and friend.</p>
<p>Lucinda is survived by her daughter Paygie (Boomer) Lloyd of Boyne Falls; two sons Kenneth (Janice) Schroeder of Boyne City and Faron Schroeder of Elmira; one brother Loys Moore of Roseville; twenty- three grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; in laws and friends.</p>
<p>She is preceded in death by her husband Maurice “Fred” Hodgkin; son Charles “Bob” Schroeder; three daughters Linda Ketola, Shirly Schroeder and Wanda Horrocks; several grandchildren; parents Floyd and Effie Moore and seven brothers and sisters.</p>
<p>A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Stackus Funeral Home with a gathering of family and friends being held from  10:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home.  Pastor David Behling will be officiating.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Maude Ruth Zagata passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the age of 93 at Luther Manor in Saginaw Michigan. </p>
<p>Maude was married to Theodore Hackenberg, who predeceased her.  She later married Andrew H. Zagata, who also predeceased her.  Surviving her are five children, and spouses Theodore (Ann) Hackenberg, Janet Hackenberg, John Hackenberg, Larry (Joyce) Zagata, Carol Zagata Miller, daughter-in-law, Karen (Carl) Howard,  twelve grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren, two sisters, Marion (Louis) Kopenkoskey and Helen Seamon.</p>
<p>Maude was predeceased by her brother, Clinton Hammond, her brother-in-law, Roger Seamon and her daughter-in-law, Marianne Hackenberg. Maude had a successful career with the Delta School of Nursing, Saginaw, MI.  She also worked for Boyne Products, Boyne City, MI from which she retired in 1981. After retirement she enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed bowling and was an avid golfer.  Loving memories of her will remain in our hearts. </p>
<p>Visitation will be held 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City with a Vigil Service being held at 7:00 pm.</p>
<p>Funeral services will be held 9:00 am at St. Matthews Church in Boyne City with Fr. Duane Wachowiak serving as celebrant.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>James S. Bates Jr., passed away at his home in Boyne City on May 23, 2010.</p>
<p>Jim was born Dec. 11, 1926, in Dearborn, the son of James S. and Myrtle (Bennett) Bates Sr.</p>
<p>Jim attended and graduated from Boyne City Public Schools in 1945. He was inducted into the Air Force on July 13, 1945, and served in the Reserves from 1951-1960.</p>
<p>He was employed at the Boyne City Post Office from 1948-1982.</p>
<p>He and his wife, Jacqueline, were married in October 1952 in Boyne City.</p>
<p>He was very active in the American Legion and he and his wife enjoyed western style square dancing for many years.</p>
<p>He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, and his daughter, Julie (Doug) Young, of Brentwood, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.</p>
<p>A memorial service celebrating Jim’s life will take place under the auspices of Ernest Peterson Post American Legion at 11 a.m. Friday, May 28, at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Boyne City. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the American Legion hall.</p>
<p>Arrangements were handled by Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Misty L. (Looze) King, age 33 of Boyne City died Monday, May 24, 2010 at University of Michigan Hospital from complications of a brain aneurysm</p>
<p>Misty was born on June 24, 1976 in Petoskey the daughter of Carol Looze.  She grew up and graduated from Boyne City High School.  Misty married Matthew King on October 4, 2003 aboard the  Amber Moon in Bocha Grande, FL.  She loved animals, nature, her friends, spending time at grandma’s house; most of all Misty loved being with her daughter Maysun.</p>
<p>Misty is survived by her husband Matthew; daughter Maysun; mother Carol Looze; grandma Sally Looze; great grandma Peg Clarence; mother and father-in-law Ron and Becky King; many aunts, uncles and extended family.</p>
<p>She is preceded in death by her grandpa John Looze; great-grandpa Que and aunt Liz Looze.</p>
<p>A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m.  Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at St. Matthews Church with Pastor David Behling officiating.  A gathering of family and friends will follow the service at the pavilion in Veterans Memorial Park in Boyne City from 1:00 pm to 4:00pm.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium;">Margaret Davis, 95, passed away May 24, 2010 at her home in Grand Rapids, MI.  She was born June 1, 1914 in Boyne City.  She was the daughter of Moses Edward and Olive E. Bergy and the wife of Earl R. Davis.  Margaret was born and raised in Boyne City.  She graduated from Albion College in 1935. She later studied business at Davenport College and was employed by the Michigan Bell Telephone Company in Grand Rapids.  Margaret enjoyed her dear friends and family, gardening, nature, family history, music, and travel.  She had many interests and shared many wonderful stories.  Margaret has been an active member of the DAR, Garden Club, and Alpha Xi Delta Sorority.  Funeral services were held on Friday, May 28 1pm at the Metcalf &amp; Jonkhoff Chapel with an hour and a half of visitation before the service from 11:30am to 1:00pm at the funeral home. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Jody Anna (Hill) Kowalske , age 43 of Boyne City passed away at home May 19, 2010.</p>
<p>Jody was born November 4, 1966 in Mt. Clemens the daughter of Bill Hill and Janet Suess.</p>
<p>Those who knew and loved her will remember her for her compassion for the things she believed in, especially for those in need, her love for animals, and her contagious laughter.</p>
<p>Jody worked along with her husband Mark in real estate for fourteen years know as the “Dynamic Duo”. Jody was a member of St. Matthews Church, ETA NU Sorority, and the Lions. Her passion was riding her bike. Jody belonged to the Boyne Country Bike Club logging many, many miles over the years.</p>
<p>Jody loved growing herbs, cooking for family and friends. She looked forward every year to getting together with her father Bill to make perogies and homemade sausage.</p>
<p>Jody is survived by her husband Mark; mother Janet Suess; father Bill (Elaine) Hill; brother Daryll Kuester; sisters Rhonda (Archie) O’Donnell, Renee (James) Pietrykowski, Laurie (Jim) Kapozzo; grandmother Helen Hill; many nieces, nephews, friends; and her beloved cats Jasmine, Abby and Tig.</p>
<p>Visitation will be held 5:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Stackus Funeral Home.</p>
<p>A celebration of Jody’s life will take place 11:00 am Monday, May 24, 2010 at St. Matthews Church in Boyne City with Fr. Duane Wachowiak serving as celebrant.</p>

<p>James Thomas Kondrat, better known as JIm or Jim-Bob, born July 8, 1959 left this world unexpectedly on May 17, 2010.  He leaves behind loved ones and friends that will feel his absence for a long time to come.</p>
<p>Jim had many interests &#8211; the outdoors, fishing, collecting antiques, spending time at the cabin and being in his garage among his collectibles.  His true passion was sharing what he loved most &#8211; his expansive fishing lure collection.<br />
He was a wonderful husband, son, step dad, friend and an extremely proud grandpa.  He spent his last and greatest twenty years of his life with the one true love of his life and best friend, Jacie.  He also loved working alongside his beloved parents while creating their own fishing decoy collection as well as just being with them.  Jim was so many things to so many people, but all would agree that he was generous, dependable and very kind hearted.  Perhaps his most natural role in life was being a grandpa.</p>
<p>Jim is survived by his wife, Jacie (DePeel), his parents Tom and Janet (Carson) Kondrat of Boyne Falls; his step son Bill (Deb) Brown and their children William and Evelyn; step son Jim (Bethany) Brown and daughter Mackenzie Rose; grandson Austin Kauranen; step son-in-law Fred Slotman and his son Zack; mother-in-law Gertrude &#8220;Nana&#8221; DePeel of Mancelona, brother Hank and sister Jane Doty and her children Jason and Meagan, and his sister Tammy (Doug) Risen; and brother-in-laws &#8211; Benny DePeel, Billy(Mary)DePeel, Don (Terri) DePeel; sister-in-laws Diane (Ron) Conway, Jeannie (Bob) Wilcox, and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.</p>
<p>Jim is preceded in death by his sister-in-law Deb DePeel (Benny); and his much loved step daughter Tina Brown Slotman on April 3, 2010.</p>
<p>Visitation will be held 5:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City.</p>
<p>A funeral mass will be held 11:00 am Friday, May 21, 2010 at St. Matthews Church in Boyne City with Fr. Duane Wachowiak serving as celebrant.</p>

<p>Edward L Shepherd passed away May 10th at Hospice of Little Traverse Bay’s Hiland Cottage.</p>
<p>He was born September 16th 1932 in Harbor Springs to Nita and Frank Shepherd. He attended Harbor Springs High School. On November 23rd, 1957 Edward married the love of his life, Anne Foster. They made their home on the family farm located on Quick Rd in Harbor Springs. He ran the family dairy farm until 1987. He retired from dairy farming but continued to farm raising beef cattle. On hot August summer days he could usually be found at his sweet corn stand in his front yard readily available to converse on many subjects. In 1959 he began yet another career driving the school bus for the Harbor Springs School District until retiring in 2008. He also enjoyed being on the Little Traverse Township Zoning Board, the Zoning Board of Appeals, and the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS).</p>
<p>Edward is survived by his loving wife Anne; their three children Frank, Ken (Barb), and Connie (Brian) O’Neill. He also has six grandchildren, Andi and Meg Shepherd, Calli and Jacque O’Neill, Ashley Shepherd and Katie (Brandon) Wagner as well as a great-grand daughter Addison and many nieces and nephews. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Kenneth and Ernest Shepherd, and a daughter Cynthia.</p>
<p>The Family suggests that in lieu of flowers those wishing to honor his memory make a contribution to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay, the Holy Childhood Building Fund or the scholarship fund of Edward L. Shepherd to be established with the Harbor Springs School District.</p>
<p>The Funeral Mass will take place on Wed. May 12th at 11:00 AM at Holy Childhood Church in Harbor Springs. Fr. Joe Graff will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Childhood Cemetery. Visitation will take place this evening from 6-8:00 PM at the church with a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM.</p>
