One arrest for meth, OWI


On December 31, 2019 at approximately 11:00 p.m. troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Cadillac Post contacted the driver of a vehicle blocking the intersection of Mackinaw Trail and Broadcast Way in Clam Lake Township.

The driver was subsequently arrested for operating while under the influence of drugs, possession of methamphetamine and several other charges.

The driver, 24-year-old Ricky Willard Smith of Saranac, showed signs of intoxication and was in possession of methamphetamine.

Sobriety tests were administered, and he was placed under arrest for operating while under the influence of drugs.

Smith was lodged in the Wexford County Jail.

He was arraigned in the 84th District Court in Cadillac on one count Possession of Methamphetamine, a felony punishable by 10 years and/or $15,000.00; and one count Operating While Under the Influence of Drugs; a misdemeanor punishable by 93 days and a fine of $500.00; one count Driving While License Suspended, a misdemeanor punishable by 93 days and $500.00; one count Operate Without Security/Insurance, a misdemeanor punishable by one year and $200.00 to $500.00; and one count Open Intoxicants in a Motor Vehicle, a misdemeanor punishable by 90 days and $100.00.

Smith’s bond was set at $50,000.00 cash surety. His next scheduled court appearance is a probable cause hearing on January 14, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.
