Felonious assault, domestic violence

On Sunday, February 2, 2020 at approximately 3:00 a.m. troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Cadillac Post were dispatched to a wellbeing check at a residence located on Ash Street in Benzonia. The victim was sending texts to a friend that her boyfriend was threatening her with a machete.
The victim alleges the suspect, 40-year-old Cole Dale Porter of Benzonia, threatened to kill her with the machete. The victim was not injured. She and Porter had an argument and he threatened her with the machete. The machete was seized as evidence. Porter left the scene before troopers arrived but returned and was taken into custody. Porter was lodged in the Benzie County Jail.
Porter was arraigned in the 85th District Court in Benzie County on one count Felonious Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, a felony punishable by up to 4 years and $2,000; and one count Domestic Violence, a misdemeanor punishable by 93 days and/or $500.00. Porter remains lodged on a $10,000 10% cash bond. His next scheduled court appearance in on February 20, 2020.
