David R. Finley

The Board of Trustees of North Central Michigan College announced on Friday May 25 that David Roland Finley Ph.D. has accepted an offer to become the next President of the college.

Finley’s experience includes working as acting president of Lake Superior State University beginning in May of 2017.

Finley is the former dean of business and engineering at Lake Superior State University, where he worked since 2012.

According to Finley’s LSSU bio, he holds a bachelor’s degree in atmospheric and oceanic science, and a master’s degree in atmospheric science, both from University of Michigan, as well as a master’s degree and doctoral degree in chemical engineering, both from Wayne State University.

Finley started his career in Ann Arbor as an environmental consultant but soon found his heart was in academia.

Shortly after earning his Ph.D., he took a position as chair of the McKetta Dept. of Chemical Engineering at Trine University in Angola, Ind., and continued through the ranks there.

During yesterday’s board of trustees meeting, Finley’s contract was unanimously approved.

July 2 will be Finley’s first day on campus as president of North Central Michigan College.
