Boyne area teacher nominated for educator of the year

One local teacher has again been nominated for teacher of the year.

Twenty-five outstanding educators from all corners of Michigan have been honored as semifinalists for the Michigan Charter School Teacher of the Year and Administrator of the Year awards.

The semifinalists were announced by the Michigan Association of Public School Academies (MAPSA), the state charter school association.

There are more than 10,000 charter school teachers and more than 1,500 charter school administrators in Michigan, and hundreds of nominations were received for this year’s awards.

From here, the list of semifinalists will be narrowed down to the five most outstanding finalists for each award.

The finalists were scheduled to be announced on March 27 (teachers) and March 29 (administrators), and each finalist will be featured in a video series on MAPSA’s Facebook page.

The winners of the 2018 Michigan Charter School Administrator of the Year and Teacher of the Year awards will then be announced during National Charter Schools Week, May 6-12.

The 15 semifinalists for the 2018 Michigan Charter School Teacher of the Year award include Cinda Shumaker, Concord Academy Boyne, Boyne City, fourth grade.
