Spring Lake Park, Thursday, June 7 & 14, 7:30am-9:30am. Spring Lake Park is located near the M-31 / M-119 intersection north of Petoskey. Meet at the gazebo, and we’ll walk the flat trails, boardwalk, and paved rail trail along Mud Lake to Round Lake. Loaner binoculars will be available. The leisurely-paced walks will last about 2 hours, but participants are free to come and go as their schedules allow.
Postle Farm Preserve, Friday, June 8, 9am-10:30am. Postle Farm Preserve in Charlevoix County is one of the largest tracts preserved by the Walloon Lake Trust & Conservancy. The rolling terrain includes open fields of former farmland, dense woods, a small stream and a seasonal pond. Postle Farm Preserve abuts the Walloon Lake Country Club and is accessed via Country Club Road. From Petoskey take 131 South, go past Bear River Road, turn right on Country Club Road. Drive about a mile to the parking area just after the 90° turn.
Oden Fish Hatchery, Sunday, June 10, 8am-10am. Meet at the hatchery’s south entrance on U.S. 31 by the old train car. Don’t you use Google maps, they will lead you do a different entrance for the Fish Hatchery. Explore the trails at the Oden Fish Hatchery in search of migrating and nesting birds. We will bird the evergreen and deciduous woodlands, as well as ponds, wetland habitats, and open areas near the hatchery buildings. Most trails are flat and broad. Time is flexible and participants are free to leave at any time. Optional brunch afterwards.
