Zach Hankins spotlighted in this Charlevoix County Sports Digest

SPOTLIGHT
• Zach Hankins (Charlevoix 2014) secured his second double-digit scoring effort of the season at center for the Ferris State University men’s basketball program (11-2) in a 85-72 victory at Malone University (3-9) by contributing 11 points, seven rebounds and one block on Jan. 7 in Canton, Ohio.

On Jan. 2, the sophomore posted eight points, seven rebounds and one block in a 72-69 triumph at home against the University of Findlay (7-5) on Jan. 2 in Big Rapids.
On Jan. 3, he followed by providing five points, five rebounds, one assist and one block in a 71-68 victory at home against Wayne State University (2-8).
For the season, he’s compiled 5.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
• Jay Redman (Boyne City 2012) contributed one rebound and one block at guard for Lawrence Tech University (3-14) in a 68-64 loss at home to Holy Cross College (10-7) on Dec. 29 in Southfield.
On Jan. 7, the senior followed by hauling in a rebound in an 81-59 loss at the University of Michigan – Dearborn (8-9) on Jan. 6 in Dearborn.
For the season, he’s totaled 4.7 points and 0.9 rebound per game.

• Josh Puroll (Boyne Falls 2012) hauled in one rebound at forward for Lawrence Tech University against Holy Cross College.
For the season, the senior’s tallied 1.5 points per game.

MEN’S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
• Eric Buday (Charlevoix 2011) is a fifth-year senior and middle distance runner for Michigan State University, which opened at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open on Dec. 4 in Allendale.
The meet was not scored.
On Jan. 15, the Spartans will resume competition at the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open in Allendale.
For his career, Buday holds a personal best in the 800-meter run of 1 minute, 54.67 seconds.

• Winter Romeyn (Ellsworth 2015) is a freshman distance runner for Michigan State University.
In the fall, he competed for the MSU cross country program and posted a personal-best effort on 5,000-meter courses of 16:18.9.

• Andrew Plude (Charlevoix 2012) is a senior distance runner for Saginaw Valley State University, which opened at the Kent State University Golden Flash Gala on Dec. 11 in Kent, Ohio.
The meet was not scored, and Plude did not compete.
On Jan. 15, the Cardinals will resume competition at home in the SVSU Classic in University Center.
For Plude’s career, he holds personal bests in the 1,500-meter and 800-meter run of 4:03.75 and 1:59.19, respectively.

• Nick Plude (Charlevoix 2015) is a freshman distance runner for Saginaw Valley State University.

• Tevin Larmond (Boyne City 2013) will conclude an extended winter break for Spring Arbor University, which will resume competition at the Aquinas College Quad No. 2 on Jan. 22 in Grand Rapids.
From Dec. 4-5, the Cougars opened the season at the Oiler Open in Findlay, Ohio.
The meet was not scored, and the sophomore sprinter did not compete.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
• Rainey McCune (Boyne City 2014) contributed eight points, six rebounds and three assists as a starting guard for National Junior College Athletic Association Division II No. 5 Schoolcraft College (15-1) in a 69-37 victory at Alpena Community College (2-6) on Jan. 4 in Alpena.
On Jan. 6, the freshman followed by distributing a season-high seven assists and scored two points in a 75-20 triumph at home against Wayne County Community College District (0-10) in Livonia.
For the season, she’s compiled 6.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
• Kayla Keane (East Jordan 2015) is a freshman distance runner for No. 14 University of Michigan, which opened at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open on Dec. 4 in Allendale.
The meet was not scored, and Keane did not compete.
In the fall, she contributed a personal-best effort on 5,000-meter courses of 17 minutes, 39 seconds for the UM cross country program.
On Jan. 9, the Wolverines resumed competition at the Hillsdale College Winter Opener in Hillsdale.

• Molly Jeakle (Charlevoix 2012) is a redshirt junior and distance runner for Michigan State University, which opened at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open on Dec. 4 in Allendale.
The meet was not scored.
On Jan. 15, the Spartans will resume competition at the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open in Allendale.
For his career, Jeakle holds personal bests in the 1,500-meter run and 800-meter run of 4 minutes, 33.29 seconds and 2:17.53, respectively.

• Amber Way (Charlevoix 2015) will contribute in distance events for Michigan State University after competing with the No. 17 Spartans cross country program at the NCAA Division I National Championships in the fall.
During the cross country season, the freshman collected a personal-best effort on 6,000-meter courses of 20:59.

• Kylie Hicks (Boyne City 2014) is an alternate for the 4×400-meter relay for NCAA Division II No. 4 Grand Valley State University, which holds the No. 8 performance in the event among Division II with a season-best time of 3:53.85.
In the season opener, the sophomore clinched fifth with the reserve 4×400-meter relay (4:00.992) and ninth in the 300-meter dash (41.99 seconds) at the GVSU Holiday Open on Dec. 4 in Allendale.
The meet was not scored.
On Jan. 15, the Lakers will resume competition at home in the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open.

• Kaleigh Beard (East Jordan 2012) is a senior thrower for Spring Arbor University, which resumed competition at the Hillsdale College Winter Opener on Jan. 9 in Hillsdale.

On Dec. 4, the Cougars opened at the Saginaw Valley State University Holiday Open on Dec. 4 in University Center.

For her career, she’s compiled personal bests in the hammer throw and shot put of 98 feet, 1.5 inches and 29-0, respectively.

WOMEN’S ROWING
• Ivy Wells (Charlevoix 2015) is a freshman for Eastern Michigan University, which will conclude an extended winter break and resume competition at the University of Alabama on Feb. 27 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
