Reserve your space now for a three-day Ernest Hemingway inspired event that features food, drinks, stories, boating, fly-fishing and other Hemingway favorites, including his daughter-in-law Valerie Hemingway and the head of the Michigan Hemingway Society.

The Last Good Country: Walloon Lake, An Ernest Hemingway Occasion

Friday April 29 marks the start of this three-day event package featuring a meet-n-greet with Valerie Hemingway, who was Ernest’s personal assistant and daughter-in-law.

The meet-n-greet will also feature John Cohassey, a Hemingway author and Chris Struble, President of the Michigan Hemingway Society.

The Friday night event will feature Hemingway inspired drinks and hors d’oeuvres compliments of the Walloon Lake Inn.

Saturday April 30 includes a guided tour of Horton Bay and a boat tour of Walloon Lake that visits some of Hemingway’s favorite haunts.

In the evening guests will enjoy a “Nick Adam’s” Feast at the Walloon Lake Inn accompanied by tales of Hemingway as seen through the eyes of his personal assistant.

Sunday wraps up the weekend long Hemingway celebration with the “Sun Also Rises” breakfast at Barrel Back and a fly fishing demonstration on the Bear River to honor the opening of trout season in northern Michigan, a favorite past time of Ernest Hemingway.

Come experience the area that Hemingway enjoyed as a young man and fondly referred to as “The Last Good Country” in his writing.
