A yearlong celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Kiwanis Eddie Essay contest continued on Thursday Dec. 3, with the 10th-grade awards banquet.
The contest, held in honor of Ed Hughes, the brother of local Kiwanis member Bernadette Beyer, is designed to pass on the spirit of an ordinary person doing extra-ordinary things for “one child and one community at a time.”
Ed’s life exemplified the spirit of giving without expecting anything in return.
Through sponsorships, the Boyne City Kiwanis Club has given away $14,800 to local charities since the first Eddie Essay Contest in May of 2006.
