East Jordan Community Christmas kickoff Dec. 1


East Jordan’s Annual Community Night Celebration is scheduled for Thursday Dec. 1 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. downtown on Main Street.

The popular Soup Cook-off will feature homemade soups from area restaurants at the East Jordan Community Center from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

A donation of $2.00 per person will benefit the Care & Share Food Pantry and a chance to vote for your favorite soup.

The top three choices will be presented with plaques. Bake sale items will be available with proceeds to benefit the East Jordan Co-op Nursery School and beverages will be available for purchase benefiting the East Jordan Freedom Festival.

The Community Night will feature the fast growing “Holiday Light Parade” which will come down Main Street at 6 PM.

The parade will be followed by the lighting of the Community Tree at the corner of Spring and Hammond Streets.

Everyone is welcome to join the fun of singing Christmas Carols around the tree led by Citizen of the Year Brenda Kaye Malpass.

Citizen of the Year will also flip the switch on the Christmas Tree at 6:15 PM.

Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will visit with children in the Commission Chambers at City Hall on Main Street, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.

Children will receive handmade stockings courtesy of the East Jordan Lioness and Lions. Cookies will be available after a visit with Santa.

Participating merchants and businesses will be having open houses with special sales and refreshments.

The Jordan River Arts Council will be holding their popular “Make and Take Craft” event, as well as, their Gift Market from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Arts Council building on Main Street.

Be sure to pick up a game board for the first ever Rotary “Find Santa” Scavenger Hunt.

Game boards can be picked up at participating East Jordan Businesses and you have between November 23 and December 1 to take your game board to at least 10 of the participating businesses on the game card, and find the hiding “Santa.”

Once you spot Santa, request the store employee to stamp, punch or sign your card.

Return game card, with at least 10 stamps to the Community Center on Dec. 1, between 5–8 PM.

Drawing for a $50 Gift Card will take place at 8:00 PM.

You do not need to be present to win.

The East Jordan Freedom Festival will once again be holding their annual Christmas Raffle Drawing at 7:30 PM in the Community Center.

Raffle Tickets are available for purchase at the East Jordan Area Chamber Office, as well as from any Freedom Festival Board Member.

Tickets will be on sale the night of the drawing. You do not need to be present to win.

After the downtown festivities, be sure to take a drive thru the East Jordan Lions Club Lighted Christmas Village at the East Jordan Tourist Park.

The Christmas Village will be lit from December 1 thru January 4.

Drive through the park to view one of a kind holiday scenes created by local businesses, churches, organizations and individuals.

Santa will visit the park on Dec. 17, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served in the Log Building.
