Crooked Tree Arts Center’s Kitchen Painters exhibit opens June 16

On Thursday, June 16, the Crooked Tree Arts Center’s Kitchen Painters exhibit “A Passion for Painting” will open in the Atrium Gallery.

The work of over 20 artists will be exhibited, with over 100 pieces displayed.

Showcased media will include oil, watercolor, acrylic, and mixed. The subjects will cover a wide range from classic to modern abstract.

Discover the visual strength and original beauty of the works by area artists, each with a moving personal story, many from very different backgrounds far removed from the mainstream art world.

This exhibition surprises and challenges, forces examination of the conventional definition of the word “artist,” and shows that good art is good art regardless of the maker’s résumé.

The Kitchen Painters group includes award-winning artists, many of whom live year-round in northern Michigan.

The Crooked Tree Kitchen Painters began in 1981 with a small group of artists who met weekly to paint.

They valued the rapport and sharing of ideas that occurs when artists gather.

Crooked Tree Arts Center welcomed the group and encouraged their work, allowing them to meet in the Crooked Tree kitchen … thus the name “Kitchen Painters.”

The group now has over 65 active members.

The Kitchen Painters meet every Monday from noon – 3 p.m., excluding holidays, and welcome artists of all skill levels.

Their work has been shown at Petoskey City Hall and Infinity Eye Care as Art Outreach within the local community.

The exhibit opening reception from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on June 16 coincides with Downtown Petoskey’s Gallery Walk.

Members of the Kitchen Painters group will be out on the Bidwell Plaza painting en plein air for passersby to watch.

Refreshments will be served in the Atrium Gallery and the Art Tree Sales Gallery that evening.

Volunteers will provide stickers to the Gallery Walk participants in the Atrium Gallery. This event is free and open to the public.

A Passion for Painting will be on display from June 16 through September 6.
