Charlevoix-Emmet ISD workshop: Is the personal curriculum right for your student?

Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District (Char-Em ISD) is hosting an informational session for parents to help them understand the personal curriculum option.

Attorney Sharon L. LaPointe and Char-Em ISD Special Education Director Diane Heinzelman will lead the 6-7:30 p.m., Wednesday Feb. 3 session at Charlevoix Public Library.

The free workshop will help parents understand when it may be appropriate to use a personal curriculum option to modify specific Michigan Merit Curriculum (MMC) high school credit requirements and/or content expectations based on the individual learning needs of a student.

“The personal curriculum is designed to serve students who want to accelerate or go beyond the MMC requirements and students who need to individualize learning requirements to meet these requirements,” Heinzelman said.

LaPointe will provide an overview of the personal curriculum option, the various types of personal curriculum modifications, and how you—as a parent or guardian—can request this option and become actively engaged in the personal curriculum process for your student.

For more information, contact Diane Heinzelman during regular business hours at (231) 547-9947.

Refreshments will be served at this event.
