According to a Monday March 7 press release, Charlevoix County Sheriff W. Don Schneider announced his intention not to run for re-election and to retire at the end of this term after serving the citizens of Charlevoix County for over 35 years at the sheriff’s office.

Schneider’s career at the Sheriff’s Office began in October 1981 as a Deputy Sheriff.

In January of 1986 he was promoted to Sergeant and January 1997 was appointed Undersheriff by former Sheriff George T. Lasater.

Schneider served in that position for over twelve years until Sheriff Lasater’s retirement. Schneider ran for Sheriff in 2008 and was elected for two terms.

Sheriff Schneider is both humbled and honored to have been placed in the trust of the good citizens of Charlevoix County over his long career.

Sheriff Schneider is placing his full support and endorsement of Undersheriff Chuck Vondra to assume the honored position of Sheriff in the coming election.

Vondra has been his appointed Undersheriff for the past two terms and has done an exemplary job which has prepared him to be the best candidate for County Sheriff, without question.

Sheriff Schneider asks for your support for Chuck Vondra.
