Don’t miss Boyne City’s big springtime celebration.
Officially dubbed the 56th Annual National Morel Mushroom Festival, the even goes from Wednesday May 11 through Sunday May 15.
Boyne’s celebration of this local favorite mushroom welcomes spring to Northern Michigan with events including a wine-tasting and craft beer block party, the weekend-long carnival, live entertainment in the park, mushroom hunts and gourmet foods, and the great morel mushroom giveaway!
Wednesday, May 11
5 p.m. to 12 Midnight – Open Mic Competition in Veterans Park Festival Tent – First place cash prize is $500, second place $250, third place $150, fourth place $75, fifth place $25.
Entry fee is $35.
Thursday, May 12
3 pm – Schmidt Amusements Carnival in Vets Park
4 to 8 pm – Craft Beer Block Party on South Lake Street in downtown Boyne City.
Featuring 20 craft beer brewers, local restaurants, local food trucks and live music from the Thornetta Davis Band from Detroit.
Admission is $10 per person 21 and over and includes a souvenir Morel Block Party plastic beer glass and two tasting tickets.
Additional tickets are only $1 for a 3 oz. taste.
Free admission to those under 21 who want to enjoy the live music and food vendors.

Friday, May 13
1-6 pm – Craft Show – Showcasing crafters with unique, hand-made items.
1-6 pm – M.O.R.E.L. Show “Michigan Outdoor Recreational Experiences & Living Show” in Sunset Park, corner of Water and Lake Streets, adjacent to the Chamber office.
3 pm – Schmidt Amusements Carnival
4 pm – Morel Seminar – Free tips on finding morels in the woods, featuring local morel hunting expert Anthony Williams. Beer & wine available.
5 pm – Guided Morel Hunt buses depart from Veterans Park, $15; register online. You can also register in the festival tent from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday; cash only for late registration, no credit cards.
5:30 & 8:00 pm – Morelfest Wine & Dine gourmet event with two seatings at the Beach House Restaurant. Entertainment with singer/songwriter Nelson Olstrom.
8 p.m. – Entertainment in the Festival Tent with The Cookies, Motown/dance group. $5.
Saturday, May 14
7-10 am – Morel Breakfast at the VFW Post 3675 @ 1108 Boyne Avenue.
8 am – “Run for Their Lives” Humane Society 5K run

**Register 8 – 9 am at 1315 Boyne Ave., the former Carter’s store parking lot. Buses leave at 9:00 am sharp.

8:30 pm – Live music and dancing in the tent with Northern Michigan’s favorite rock band, Scarkasm.
