Boyne City seeks Marvin Loding Award nominations

The Boyne City Planning Commission is seeking nominations for the Marvin Loding Award Community Pride award.

This award was established in 1986, and honors Mr. Marvin Loding, who was alderman on the City’s Common Council before adoption of the City Charter, mayor pro-tem of the first City Commission in 1960, three-time Boyne City Mayor, Planning Commissioner, Zoning Board of Appeals member, two-time Commissioner on the Charlevoix County Board of Commissioners and Member of the Commission on Aging.

In addition to his years public service, he was also an active citizen and directly involved in the development of many community projects and programs.

In recognition of this outstanding citizen, the City of Boyne City created the Marvin Loding Community Pride award to honor those who take pride in the appearance of their home, business, or industry.

The criteria for judging the Award is based on:

  • a. Renovation
  • b. Landscaping
  • c. Appearance
  • d. Maintenance
  • e. Harmony with the neighborhood

Nominations for awards can be made by any person, business or organization and are submitted to the planning commission for consideration.

Nomination forms are available on the City of Boyne City website at (Planning Department) or can be picked up at City Hall.

Nomination forms need to be submitted to Boyne City Planning Director Scott McPherson no later than Monday Sept. 19.

The Planning Commission may consider individual awards for residential, commercial and industrial categories.

The planning commissioner’s review and vote by secret ballot on the nominations. Nominees must receive a majority of votes to be selected for the award.
