Boyne City Middle School Principal Mike Wilson seriously injured in snowmobile crash

On Saturday Jan. 23,at approximately 12:21 p.m., the Charlevoix County Sheriff Office, along with the Emmet County Ambulance, Boyne Valley Fire, and Melrose Township Fire were dispatched to a single vehicle snowmobile accident in Melrose Township on the snowmobile trail off Cobb Road.

The accident investigation revealed that 38-year-old Michael Wilson from Boyne City was operating a 2001 Polaris Supersport on the trails when he lost control and was thrown off his sled, striking a tree.

Wilson suffered serious injuries and was transported to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital by Emmet County Ambulance.

Wilson was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, however speed is believed to be a factor.
