Alexis Lefevre turned Sweet Sixteen this past weekend, and to celebrate she swam across Lake Charlevoix! Inspired, (challenged!), and accompanied by her 13-year-old sister, Noel Lefevre, the two Lefevre sisters ventured across Lake Charlevoix from a beach adjacent to Irish Boat Shop in Charlevoix to the western tip of Oyster Bay, swimming across Raspberry Bay, a total of 1.97 miles.
The two swimmers were flanked by their father, Patrick Lefevre, on a jet ski and Maisey Lefevre, 11, on a kayak to keep the swimmers safe from boating traffic.
Their celebratory swim took about an hour and 10 minutes through wavy waters with varying temperatures as low as 65 degrees.
“It was a little freaky not being able to see the bottom like I can in a pool,” said Alexis. “But the swim was a lot of fun and I was really excited to finish.”
The Lefevres, who reside in Holt, Michigan, are a swimming family with the three sisters on the Spartan Swim Club in the Lansing area and mom, Angel Lefevre, teaching swim lessons.
The sisters have summer swim practice daily from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m., with weekend competition meets.
They had only two weekends off this summer.
Alexis also competes on the Holt High School swim team and hopes to get a swimming scholarship to college.
The sisters agreed they should make this swim an annual celebration!
