The driver of the motorcycle was identified as 52 year old Jo Ann Webster of Grand Rapids.

She and her husband were riding separate motorcycles Northbound on US-131 when a wild pheasant flew into her face shield, breaking it, and causing her to lose control of the motorcycle and leave the road to the right where she crashed on the shoulder of the highway.

Webster was treated on scene by Boyne Valley Fire and EMS, as well as a couple of Good Samaritans with medical training who also stopped to assist.

She was transported to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital for treatment of internal injuries.

Webster was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, which likely averted additional injury to her face.
