The Boyne City Fire Department will be hosting its annual benefit, this year featuring country music star James Otto, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday Sept. 27 at the Boyne City High School Performing Arts Center.

The fire department has held these benefits for over 25 years, and continues to use the profits—which can yield between $3,000 and $5,000 per fundraiser—for necessary equipment.
“We purchased a new fire truck with (the proceeds) and we purchased our jaws (of life) equipment,” said Boyne City Fire chief Dennis Amesbury. “We use the money for what we don’t have enough money to purchase.”
The Boyne City Fire Department fights up to 200 fires a year, provides other services such as helping with car accidents, downed power lines, and performs water and ice rescues.
“We do a lot of other things besides just fighting fires you know,” Amesbury said. “if anyone is interested in coming to the show to help support the fire department, then you can buy tickets at the door or get a hold of us.”
He added, “And, you’re welcome to send donations at any time to (Boyne) City Hall under the fire department’s name.”
Country singer Otto has made the billboard music charts with many singles including “Just Got Started Lovin’ You,” which was the number one country music single of 2008.
Tickets are $25 at the door or you can call for ticket info at (231) 225-0275.
