Sheriff Don Schneider reports that on Oct. 13, a stray kitten was found on Jefferson Street near North Street in Boyne City, painted with an orange-red colored paint.
His tail was broken in several places and had a severe infection and infestation which resulted in the tail to be amputated.
Also, back on May 13, a light-colored cat was spotted in the same area with possible wounds on it.
However, Officers were unable to locate the animal.
If someone is found guilty of this crime, they could be looking at 93 days in jail, a fine of up to $1,000, and up to 200 hours of community service.
The Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Office takes this crime seriously and will pursue this
complaint to the fullest extent of the law.
