Charlevoix County Sports Digest: Jenna Way milestone and more!

MILESTONE
• Jenna Way (Charlevoix 2013) concluded her season as a junior setter for the NCAA Division II No. 3 Ferris State University volleyball program (33-3) by qualifying to compete in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships Tournament finals on Dec. 5 in Big Rapids.
In the competition, she delivered five assists and one dig in a 3-2 loss at home to NCAA Division II Rockhurst University (34-3).
For the season, she compiled 106 assists, 44 digs, 11 aces and four kills.

 

GEMS
• Zach Hankins (Charlevoix 2014) contributed a season-high 14 points, six blocks and three rebounds at center for the NCAA Division III Ferris State University men’s basketball program (8-1) in a 77-68 triumph at home against Lake Erie College (4-3) on Dec. 3 in Big Rapids.
For the year, the redshirt freshman’s totaled five points and 2.8 rebounds per game.

• Jay Redman (Boyne City 2012) poured in a season-high 21 points and one steal as a starting guard for the Lawrence Tech University men’s basketball program (2-10) in a 95-65 loss at Indiana University South Bend (9-3) on Nov. 28 in South Bend, Indiana.
For the year, the senior’s tallied 6.5 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.

• Rainy McCune (Boyne City 2015) secured her third double-digit scoring of the season as a starting guard for the Schoolcraft College women’s basketball program (7-0) in a 73-69 victory at home against Owens Community College (7-4) by posting 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals on Dec. 5 in Livonia.
For the year, the freshman’s compiled nine points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
• Josh Puroll (Boyne Falls 2012) contributed four points and one rebound at forward for Lawrence Tech University (2-10) in a 95-65 loss at Indiana University South Bend (7-2) on Nov. 28 in South Bend, Indiana.
For the season, the senior’s totaled 2.3 points per game.

MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
• Winter Romeyn (Ellsworth 2015) will contribute in distance events for Michigan State University after competing with the No. 19 Spartans cross country program at the NCAA Division I National Championships in the fall.
On Dec. 4, MSU opened at the Grand Valley State Holiday Open on Dec. 4 in Allendale.
The meet was not scored, and Romeyn did not compete.

• Andrew Plude (Charlevoix 2012) is a senior distance runner for Saginaw Valley State University, which opened at home in the Saginaw Valley State Holiday Open on Dec. 4 in University Center.
The meet was not scored, and Plude did not compete.

• Nick Plude (Charlevoix 2015) is a freshman distance runner for Saginaw Valley State University.

• Tevin Larmond (Boyne City 2013) is a junior sprinter for Spring Arbor University, which opened at the Saginaw Valley State Holiday Open.
He did not compete.

WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
• Kayla Keane (East Jordan 2015) is a freshman for the University of Michigan, which opened at the Grand Valley State Holiday Open on Dec. 4 in Allendale.
The meet was not scored, and Keane did not compete.

• Molly Jeakle (Charlevoix 2012) is a senior distance runner for No. 11 Michigan State University, which started the season at the Grand Valley State Holiday Open.
Jeakle did not compete.
• Amber Way (Charlevoix 2015) will contribute in distance events for Michigan State University after competing with the No. 17 Spartans cross country program at the NCAA Division I National Championships in the fall.

• Kylie Hicks (Boyne City 2014) clinched fifth with the 4×400-meter relay (4 minutes, 0.92 seconds) and ninth in the 300-meter dash (41.99 seconds) at the Grand Valley State Holiday Open for NCAA Division II No. 4 Grand Valley State University.

• Kaleigh Beard (East Jordan 2012) is a senior thrower for Spring Arbor University, which opened at the Saginaw Valley State Holiday Open on Dec. 4 in University Center.
The meet was not scored, and Beard did not compete.
