Charlevoix County Sheriff Office finds SUV in a Marion Township pond

Sheriff Don Schneider reports that at approximately 8:55 a.m. today, Thursday Dec. 3, the Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint of a vehicle in a private pond off of Lake 26 Road in Marion Township.

Charlevoix City Fire and EMS and Charlevoix Township Fire responded to the scene.

A 2006 GMC Denali was found submerged up to its roof.

Divers from the Charlevoix City Dive Team were able to recover the vehicle from the pond where it was found to be without any occupants.

A short time later, the owner/driver of the vehicle, Marc Jacobs age 37 from East Jordan, arrived at the scene to report the incident to the Sheriff’s Office.

There was one passenger, Andrew Mailloux age 28 from Charlevoix.

Neither occupant sustained any injuries.

They reported to Law Enforcement that they were out looking for deer when the vehicle would not stop because of the slippery muddy conditions causing them to wind up in the pond.

The Sheriff’s Office was relieved that no one was injured in this accident which had the potential of turning fatal.

The Sheriff commends all the First Responders for their hard work and effort in this event.
