SPOTLIGHT

• Mary Myers (Boyne City 2013) collected a season-high 11 points, five rebounds and two assists as a guard for the Alpena Community College women’s basketball program (1-8, 0-4 Michigan Community College Athletic Association) in a 60-49 loss at Schoolcraft College (11-5, 4-2 Michigan Community College Athletic Association) on Jan. 7 in Livonia.

For the season, the sophomore’s compiled 4.1 points per game, 3.2 rebounds per game and 0.8 assist per game.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

• Collin Hewitt (Harbor Light Christian 2011) contributed eight points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal as a forward for Spring Arbor University (11-8, 2-5 Crossroads League) in a 53-52 loss at Taylor University (11-8, 2-5 Crossroads League) on Jan. 10 in Upland, Indiana.

On Jan. 12, the senior followed by providing eight points and three rebounds in a 91-60 loss at Saint Francis University (15-4, 5-2 Crossroads League) in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

For the season, he’s totaled 8.3 points per game and 2.1 rebounds per game through 19 appearances and six starts.

• Josh Puroll (Boyne Falls 2012) delivered two points and one block as a forward for Lawrence Technological University (3-15, 0-10 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) in a 70-57 loss at Cornerstone University (14-4, 8-2 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) on Jan. 3 in Grand Rapids.

For the season, the junior’s tallied 1.7 points per game and 1.4 rebounds per game.

• Zach Hankins (Charlevoix 2014) is a freshman center for Ferris State University, which pushed its winning steak to 12-consecutive games after collecting a 77-62 victory at home against Walsh University (5-7, 1-7 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) on Jan. 10 in Big Rapids.

Overall, the Bulldogs improve to 12-2 overall and 8-0 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.

MEN’S INDOOR TRACK ANDFIELD

• Eric Buday (Charlevoix 2011) is a distance runner for Michigan State University, which will resume competition at the Notre Dame Invitational on Jan. 24 in South Bend, Indiana.

On Jan. 9, the Spartans were set to compete at the Grand Valley State University Bob Eubanks Open in Allendale.

The meet was cancelled due to weather conditions.

For Buday’s career, the senior tallies personal bests in the 1,500-meter run and 800-meter run of 4 minutes, 2.09 seconds and 1:54.67, respectively.

• Luke Hawley (East Jordan 2011) opened the year by collecting a fourth-place finish in the 600-meter run at the AQ Odd Distance Open with a time of 1 minute, 26.92 seconds for Aquinas College in a 79-26 victory against Calvin College on Jan. 10 in Grand Rapids.

In 2014, the senior captured All-American recognition by placing third with the 4×800-meter relay at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships with a time of 7:36.2 on March 6 in Geneva, Ohio.

• Andrew Plude (Charlevoix 2012) started the season by capturing third place in the mile at SVSU Holiday Classic with a time of 4:39.23 for Saginaw Valley State University on Dec. 5 in Saginaw.

The meet was not scored.

Tevin Larmond (Boyne City 2013) is a sophomore sprinter for Spring Arbor University, which will open the year at the Northwest Ohio Invitational on Jan. 16 in Findlay, Ohio.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

• Tanner McCune (Boyne City 2012) contributed seven points, four rebounds and one steal as a guard for Concordia University Ann Arbor (3-15, 2-10 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) in a 106-69 loss at Robert Morris University Illinois (13-3, 6-2 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference) on Dec. 28 in Aurora, Illinois.

On Jan. 3, the junior followed by providing three points, two assists and one rebound in a 75-65 victory at the University of Michigan-Dearborn (3-15, 1-9 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) in Ann Arbor.

In her most recent competition, she collected two assists and one rebound in a 91-70 triumph at home against Marygrove College (3-16, 1-10 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference).

For the season, she’s compiled 3.7 points per game and 1.3 rebounds per game.

WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD

• Molly Jeakle (Charlevoix 2012) is a distance runner for Michigan State University, which will resume competition at the Notre Dame Invitational on Jan. 24 in South Bend, Indiana.

For Jeakle’s career, the redshirt junior’s tallied personal bests in the 1,500-meter run and 800-meter run of 4 minutes, 33.29 seconds and 2:18.56, respectively.

• Emily Veenstra (Ellsworth 2012) opened the year by capturing fourth in the shot put (28 feet, 5 inches) and fifth in the weight throw (27-10 ¼) for Calvin College in a 69-39 loss at Aquinas College on Jan. 10 in Grand Rapids.

• Kaleigh Beard (East Jordan 2012) is a junior for Spring Arbor University, which will open the year at the Northwest Ohio Invitational on Jan. 16 in Findlay.

In 2014, she produced a season best in the shot put of 29-0.
