The Melrose Township Fire Department was dispatched to a shed fire at 1:08 a.m. Monday April 7, at 273 Old State Road outside of Boyne City in Melrose Township.
The fire spread from the shed to Morel’s Bistro restaurant.
“A deputy patrol drove by and saw a shed fire and actually put it down with his fire extinguisher,” said Melrose Township Fire Chief Dennis Howard. “They dispatched Boyne City first and then realized it was in Melrose Township.”
Fire departments from Boyne City, Hudson Township and Boyne Valley Township assisted with putting out the fire.
“The fire in the shed breached a wall and then got into the maze of roofs on the building,” Howard said.
According to Howard, the building’s owner said maintenance was being done on the shed, and that linseed oil in the building may have started the blaze.
There was no fire downstairs but plenty of water damage and the roof caved in.
