Kathy Johnson, District V Director of the of Michigan Garden Clubs, presented Nancy Cunningham of the Boyne Valley Garden Club with a Lifetime Membership Award during BVGC’s annual Christmas luncheon, held at Sommerset Pointe on Dec. 11.

Nancy received this rare honor, for her leadership and involvement in numerous projects to beautiful Boyne City while working with the garden club, the Friends of the Boyne River, and Boyne City government.

Char Wehner, past president of BVGC said, “Nancy sets a good example by always being the first to volunteer when help is needed.”

Cunningham was humbled by the standing ovation given to her at the luncheon by her fellow gardeners.

“I really appreciate you honoring me because you all know how much work it takes to get things done in our gardens and in our projects,” she said.

Since Cunningham joined the Boyne Valley Garden Club in 2002, she served as the Recording Secretary (2004-2008), been a garden captain of several gardens, chaired the Shrub & Perennial Sale Fundraiser (2009-present) and worked on numerous other projects of the club.

Through the Friends of the Boyne River and Boyne City government, she has initiated, obtained grants for, and helped implement several beautification projects, including riverbank construction and Daffodil Hill plantings in Old City Park, the planning of the new Boyne River Nature area and the planting of its Rain Garden.
