For the seventh year, Chocolate-Covered Boyne will be satisfying sweet teeth across Boyne City.
“We have about forty merchants that are participating this year,” said event organizer Linn Williams. “The first year that Chocolate-Covered Boyne started we had only 14.”
Restaurants and Businesses all across Boyne City will be taking part in the event, offering chocolates to their customers, and helping to take away some of the winter blues.
“It’s not so much about getting people into the stores, as it is the spirit of camaraderie between the residents of Boyne and the local merchants,” said Williams. “It’s been a good thing for me, and a good thing for the town because it gives them something to deaden the winter and bring something sweet.”
Among the businesses that are undertaking in the Chocolate-Covered Boyne activities include Coldwell Banker.
“We are handing out chocolate roses, anyone that comes in will get a chocolate rose,” said David Beek, Managing Broker of Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors in Boyne City. “Our office has felt rejuvenation, I am the managing broker, we have taken on four new agents this year, we just have a lot of people that really feel we need to let people know that we are out there.”
“Coldwell Banker has come back, they’ve been out for a few years,” said Williams. “I’m just pleased that people like to participate. This has given me the opportunity to lead all these business people, and have a jolly time with them; it’s nice to have met all these people that I might not otherwise have met.”
Other local businesses are participating with drawings and sales incentives.
“We are going to do chocolate refreshments, and then we will do a drawing for a spring arrangement valued at $35,” said Sydney Wormell, owner of Upsy Daisy Floral.
“I’m doing a chocolate drawing, if you come and purchase something, we have a chocolates that you can draw, and the percent off is on the chocolate, it is between 10-25 percent off,” said owner of Boyne’s Beyond Borders Jon Bautel. “The percentage off is usable on that purchase.”
“It’s a wonderful event for the Boyne City community. Chocolate-Covered Boyne is something that Boyne City has (put) together with the help of Linn Williams and the Boyne Area Chamber and Main Street that really brings the community together to celebrate a holiday that may otherwise be known as one that is just for chocolates and roses,” said Bautel.
Along with the chocolate offerings, a musical venue is planned at the Freshwater Art Gallery, located at 217 South Lake St.
“We do one concert a month from October ‘til April, the next show is sat Feb. 15. That event is called ‘Wine, Women, Chocolate, and Song,’” said Robin Lee Berry, one of the Freshwater Art Gallery Owners. “We feature four women singing in a round, which means they are all on the stage at the same time.”
She added, “There will be a special guest accompanying each artist.”
Tickets for the Freshwater Art Gallery Concert are $25 in advance or $30 at the door.
The event will be catered by Boyne Country Provisions.
“The show starts at 8 p.m. Next month is Willie Porter, he’ll be performing on March 15 during the Irish Festival. We have 180 seats here that are for sale,” said Berry. “We have a very healthy audience for music in this town.”
