Services were held Dec. 10 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Plymouth for John Conner, 55, who died suddenly Dec. 5, 2013. Conner owned and operated Boyne River Adventures, a kayak rental business, in recent years. The following information was provided by his family:

A lifelong lover of life “above the 45th,” John Connor decided with his wife Debbie to permanently relocate to Boyne City in 2006. An avid outdoors man, John loved kayaking Michigan’s many scenic waterways, hiking, hunting, camping at Young State Park, skiing at Boyne Mountain – anything that allowed him to get closer to the natural beauty of our state. John and Debbie decided to combine their love of the outdoors with their business savvy and opened Boyne River Adventures, helping to introduce hundreds of Lake Charlevoix visitors to the wonders of the area. So excited to be a part of the Boyne City community, John jumped into life here and became involved in the SOBO Arts community, Friends of Boyne River and Stroll the Streets. He seemed to know everyone quickly and soon became a well-liked member of the neighborhood, someone you could count on not only for a good laugh but also for a brief Michigan history lesson, help identifying constellations in the night sky, or a tip on the best spot for bird watching. John also loved being in the Fourth of July parade, driving the Boyne River Adventures van pulling the colorful kayaks. Sadly on Dec. 5th, on a beautiful snowy afternoon in the place that he loved, John lay down for a nap and passed away peacefully. He was the 11th of 12 children, the seventh son of Joseph and Virginia Connor. His most recent joy was becoming Grandpa to twin granddaughters, Cali and Jayda. John will be greatly missed. His heart was always in Boyne City, and he will be in our hearts.
