Conner Mills finished undefeated and in first place in the 152 weight class at Saturday’s Lake Michigan Conference Wrestling Championship held at Boyne City High School.

Mills pinned all of his opponents for the day to finish 5-0.

Coach Don Nohel lauded the performance of Mills, who is just coming back from an injury that sidelined him the first couple months of the season.

“Conner is getting progressively better and starting to clean up his wrestling,” Nohel said. “Things are coming together for him just in time for Districts.  Hopefully that will continue for him.”

Finishing second was Chandler Roberts at 145 lbs with a 4-1 record.

“Chandler has shown lots of improvement this year and took second to a high quality wrestler,” said Nohel. “He’s wrestling the best he ever has and it’s nice to see the hard work pay off and come together for him.”

Boyne’s other finisher was Parker Stolt, who finished third at 112 lbs. with a 3-2 record.

“Parker is a freshman who has come a long way in his first year of wrestling,” said Nohel. “He has shown steady improvement and is a tough kid who competes hard. We’re looking for bigger and better things from him in the future.”

Charlevoix won the tournament with a total of 115 points, followed by Grayling with 114, Traverse City St. Francis with 109, Elk Rapids with 66, Boyne City with 48 and Kalkaska with 32.  “We lost three kids to injury early in the tournament, so our team scoring wasn’t what we had hoped,” said Nohel. “But, our kids all wrestled hard and represented Boyne well.”
