The Boyne City dog park concept finally has an official name.
Boyne City commissioners approved the name “Ridge Run Dog Park” during their regular Tuesday May 13 meeting, after Boyne City Dog Park Committee officials presented their proposed rules and tentative park name.
“I think ‘Ridge Run’ sounds like a really nice name and it seems fitting for the location,” said Boyne City Commissioner Laura Sansom.
Sansom asked what type of action would be taken should there be a violation of the proposed park rules.
“Are they fined, are they warned, are they sent a letter,” she said.
Boyne City Manager Michael Cain said, if the city were to approve the rules, they could be made enforceable like all of the city’s other ordinance rules and regulations.
Boyne City Commissioner Derek Gaylord said he would remain consistent on his stance that he does not approve of the creation of the dog park.
Boyne City Commissioner Delbert “Gene” Towne said he felt the rules of the park were pretty self-explanatory.
“I’m good with the name of the dog park and I support your efforts,” he said.
Boyne City Commissioner Tom Neidhamer said the name and rules presented to the Boyne City Commission were the natural progression of the effort put forth by the many people involved in the process thus far.
“I think it’s a reflection on the community that good things happen when people work together for a goal,” he said.
Boyne City Mayor Ron Grunch said he, also, was in full support of the project.
The motion to approve the rules and name as proposed was approved by a vote of 4-1; Gaylord was the lone “no” vote.
The Ridge Run Dog Park rules are as follows:
Use park at your own risk
Dogs must be healthy, fully vaccinated, licensed and wearing identification tags in accordance with state laws
Dogs must be leashed while entering and exiting the park
Dog waste must be cleaned up immediately by the owner
Owners must be with their dogs and are legally responsible for the behavior of their dogs
Prohibited items include:
Dogs in heat
Puppies younger than 4 months old
Persistent digging and barking
Food and glass containers
The rules also include some “friendly reminders.”
Dogs outside the park must be leashed, including in the parking lot, as well as to and from the car.
Let your dog off its leash as soon as you enter the park as leashed dogs may feel threatened when greeted by off-leash dogs.
Aggressive dogs are not permitted and must be removed at the first sign of aggression; do not put yourself between fighting dogs.
Owners must be with their dogs at all times in the park.
Holes from digging need to be filled, and persistent barking must be corrected.
Be considerate of the neighborhood in regard to noise.
Small children are welcome but they must be accompanied by an adult.
