Edgar William Kurchinski, 72, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2013, in Colorado Springs, CO. He is joined in eternal life with his many family members who predeceased him, especially his sister, Gladys Ann Howie, who passed away on exactly the same day in 2006.
Edgar was born in the family home to Eugene & Ida (Zinck) Kurchinski, on Pleasant Valley Road in Boyne City, on November 8th, 1940. He attended public school there, and enjoyed the company of family and many friends throughout his youth. Later, the family made their home in Palm Harbor, Fla. and Edgar graduated from Clearwater High School, in 1959. He served in the USMC, and upon finishing his tour, returned home and began school with the first Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Policy Academy, graduating in March, 1965, as a proud deputy.
He lived in Florida and Michigan with his wife Rita, and growing family, until February 1979, when they moved to Colorado, and settled in the Greenhorn Valley. He worked in banking, and Rita ran the Post Office in their community. Later he was employed in State Corrections, where he retired after 18 years. At that time he was diagnosed with cancer.
He is survived by his children, Mark Kurchinski, Colorado Springs; Charles Kurchinski, Colorado Springs; Matthew (Janell) Kurchinski, Park City, Utah; & Sue Ann, (Troy) Ellsworth, Colorado Springs. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, sister in law Erma Kurchinski, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Edgar was a fun-loving guy, always with a ready smile, and a funny joke. He loved getting together with his many friends and tell stories of snowmobiling and hunting over a cup of coffee.
Arrangements are being handled through Colorado Cremation Care, Colorado Springs, Co, and at his request there will be a scattering of ashes in Michigan and Florida. There will be a gathering of friends and family at the Dave and Lee Kurchinski residence, to celebrate Edgar’s life, and those interested in attending should contact the family.
