It’s that time again for the annual Chocolate Covered Boyne Event that brings Boyne City citizens into businesses to sample sweet treats.
Over 30 businesses are participating in the event that combines various chocolate treats with sales on clothing, wine, candy and more.
“We are offering specials on chocolate facials and chocolate pedicures,” said Pamela Gardener of Fiji Salon and Day Spa. “The chocolate facial is an organic mask that is very good for your skin, it contains many antioxidants.”
The event will occur all over downtown Boyne City on Friday Feb. 8 and Saturday Feb. 9.
Chocolate Covered Boyne is an event that was conceived by Linn Williams, a Boyne resident who had grown bored in the winter months.
“When I first moved up here, there were no events going on after Christmas,” said Williams. “I just wanted something that people could do that would bring them into town.”
Chocolate Covered Boyne is sponsored by the Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce and Boyne City Main Street.
“This is a great event that brings people into businesses, and we all get to enjoy one of our favorite foods,” said Jim Baumann, Executive Director of the Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce.
Cindi Franco’s Cool Stuff is putting its special spin on a timeless classic by making hot-chocolate with real chocolate and marshmallows, instead of using baking cocoa.
“It’s an awesome event. I love it. Every year I look forward to it,” said Cindi Franco’s Owner Cindi Malin. “I think that it’s a lot of fun, and what else is there to do?”
One of the businesses that has been part of Chocolate Covered Boyne from its inception is Country Now and Then & Up the Lazy River.
“I never make up my mind what we’ll be offering to shoppers until just before the event. This year we are having chocolate treats and a winter inventory reduction,” said Country Now and Then Owner Karen Guznicak. “It’s a fairly nice turnout. I hope that people will get out and enjoy the event.”
She added, “We’ve got some nice sales going on.”
On Saturday, North Country Cycle Sport will be offering homemade treats.
“We are having some clothing specials to coincide the event,” said owner Bo Mayfield.
Chocolate Covered Boyne will be taking place throughout the city so be sure to check out all the stores to see what they’re offering.
Following is a list of participating stores as of press time on Monday Feb. 4. For more information and an up-to-date list, go to www.boynechamber.com.
