Bring the whole family down to Boyne City’s annual community Christmas kick-off on Friday Nov. 29.
There will be a parade featuring Santa Claus, hayrides, a chance to meet some reindeer, holiday shopping specials downtown, Christmas carolers and refreshments galore.
“It’s almost as big as the Fourth of July parade,” said Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jim Baumann. “I think the whole town just empties out and comes downtown.”
The evening of fun and togetherness lasts from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The parade—which will feature floats from businesses, community organizations, schools, families and churches—begins at 6 p.m.
Santa and some of his reindeer and elves will be in attendance as paraders line up at 5:30 p.m. on East Main Street between East and Lake streets.
“What’s new this year is Santa will go to Parkside Grill & Treats instead of Old City Park—which is a little less of a walk—and, really, if it’s cold and windy, they will move Santa inside,” Baumann said.
The parade route is Lake Street to Water Street through downtown Boyne City.
Following the parade, kids can meet Santa on Parkside’s patio.
“The whole night is fun and there is a celebratory mood all over downtown,” Baumann said. “Virtually every store is open and has refreshments and people can come down and do their Christmas shopping.”
Baumann said an added treat this year are the uniquely designed storefront windows.
“Main Street (Program) brought in this window and store decorating expert and she met with a bunch of our merchants one-on-one … and I think the windows are really quite amazing this year,” he said.
