Boyne City has a new philanthropist in town.
Her name is Emma Jason, and she is baking cupcakes to support Hiland Cottage in Petoskey.
“Some members of my family have had cancer, and I thought it would be a good way to get back,” said Deb. “We just thought that giving to Hiland would keep the money local and give back to an agency that treats people for cancer.”
Emma is the youngest of three children, and is in seventh grade at Boyne City Public Schools.
“She loves to bake as a rule, she loves skiing, playing volleyball, the outdoors, and riding horses,” said her mother Deb Jason.
Emma had a booth set up at the Morel Mushroom Festival and sold cupcakes with pink frosting on them for $2 each.
“This is hopefully the first of many times that we’ll be doing this to help out Hiland,” said Deb.
Emma is also helping out with the Pink Ribbon ride, which takes place on June 16.
Emma gave a good reason for people to buy her cupcakes, “My cupcakes are homemade, and all the proceeds go to charity, besides there are both chocolate and french vanilla flavors.”
