Jane MacKenzie, Executive Director of Northern Homes Community Development Corporation, has been chosen as the new Executive Director of the Boyne City Housing Commission.

The Boyne City Housing Commission chose six of 17 candidates to be interviewed for the position, narrowed that number down to three before making its final determination.

“She was a unanimous decision for the entire board,” said Boyne City Housing Commission Board member Judy Hartlep. “We hoped that we could negotiate with her but her asking salary was higher than what we could afford.”

MacKenzie asked the board for $38.50 per hour.

The board agreed to pay MacKenzie $32.05 per hour—or approximately $50,000 per year—to work part-time as the new executive director.

The salary does not include any benefits.

MacKenzie will work two days per week from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. and three days per week from noon until noon until 6 p.m.

MacKenzie was hired by a vote of 4-0. Boyne City Housing Commission Board President Yvonne Looze abstained from the discussion and vote citing an unspecified conflict of interest. The next meeting of the Boyne City Housing Commission is 6:30 p.m. on Thursday Nov. 29.
