The Rambler Cross Country team ran at the Division III regional at Benzie Central on Saturday. The girl’s team finished 9th overall. The top 3 teams qualify for the State Finals. Benzie Central won with 40 points, Charlevoix was second with 67 points, and Harbor Springs was third with 73 points. Also the top 15 runners qualify for the State Finals. Our top finisher was Jennelle Roberts, who finished 25th in a time of 20:21. This is an excellent time, but the competition is tough in our region. Hannah Knitter finished as our second runner and broke 23 minutes (22:54) for the second time this year. She placed 50th overall. Monica Stokes ran her personal best 23:07 and placed 53rd just ahead of teammate Kaitlyn Banner who placed 54th in 23:08. Jessica Dowty was our fifth runner placing 59th in a time of 23:25. Denise Minier finished 64th (23:47) and Katie Hicks 74th (24:45). As a group the girls ran their best races of the year. Because we had so many new runners this year, our primary goal this year was to gain experience and improve. We are greatly improved.

In the boy’s race, Garrett Fogo broke his own freshman record. He ran 17:34 and finished 30th overall. Garrett also improved over the year. He maintains focus and runs aggressively throughout the race now. Jon Calo ran his best time of the season in 19:25. He finished 70th overall. Jon also played Soccer this season. He is one of the few athletes who can compete in two sports during the same season and make positive contributions to both teams.
