Northern Michigan Regional Health System will host an emergency exercise at the John and Marnie Demmer Wellness Pavilion and Dialysis Center.
The exercise, which will also include Petoskey Public Safety and Allied EMS, will take place from 3:30 to 5 p.m., on Tuesday, October 25, 2011. During the exercise, a smoke machine will simulate a fire scenario in order to provide the most realistic environment.
“The overarching goal of this exercise is to assess the newly developed fire response plan for this facility. Results will be evaluated by our Emergency Management Committee with procedures adjusted as necessary,” said Ken Hébert, Northern Michigan Regional Hospital Safety Program Coordinator.
On the day of the event, smoke may be seen around the building. People posing as victims and staff will be exiting the facility and proceeding to the evacuation assembly area, where they may be triaged and placed into an ambulance before being transported to a staging area on the facility grounds. A fire truck will be on scene and numerous responding fire fighters will be entering the building, evacuating people, and running fire hoses.
The exercise is being conducted for the health and safety of our patients, staff, and the community.
